NBC 26 signed on the air in
1968 under the call letters
WATU. The call letters were
changed to WAGT after Schurz
Communications purchased it.
Since 1996, NBC 26 has been
honored with the "Best Newscast
in Georgia" award. The news
staff has also won first place
awards from the Associated
Press and Society of
Professional Journalists for
"Best Investigative Reporting,"
"Best General Reporting," "Best
Series Reporting," "Best News
Special," "Best Specialized
Reporting," "Best Sportscast"
and "Best Sports Program." The
station has also been
recognized by NBC Television
for excellence in news
broadcasting.
